@article{fdi:010061286, title = {{C}omparison of c-14 and u-th ages in corals from iodp 310 cores offshore {T}ahiti}, author = {{D}urand, {N}. and {D}eschamps, {P}ierre and {B}ard, {E}. and {H}amelin, {B}. and {C}amoin, {G}. and {T}homas, {A}. {L}. and {H}enderson, {G}. {M}. and {Y}okoyama, {Y}. and {M}atsuzaki, {H}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}hallow-water tropical corals can be used to calibrate the radiocarbon timescale. {I}n this paper, we present a new data set based on the comparison between {C}-14 ages and {U}-{T}h ages measured in fossil corals collected offshore the island of {T}ahiti during the {I}ntegrated {O}ceanic {D}rilling {P}rogram ({IODP}) {E}xpedition 310. {A}fter applying strict mineralogical and geochemical screening criteria, the {T}ahiti record provides new data for 2 distinct time windows: 7 data for the interval between 29 and 37 cal kyr {BP} and 58 for the last deglaciation period, notably a higher resolution for the 14-16 cal kyr {BP} time interval. {T}here are 3 main outcomes of this study. {F}irst, it extends the previous {T}ahiti record beyond 13.9 cal kyr {BP}, the oldest {U}-{T}h age obtained on cores drilled onshore in the modern {T}ahiti barrier reef. {S}econd, it strengthens the data set of the 14-15 cal kyr {BP} period, allowing for better documentation of the {C}-14 age plateau in this time range. {T}his age plateau corresponds to a drop of the atmospheric {C}-14 synchronous with an abrupt period of sea-level rise ({M}elt {W}ater {P}ulse 1{A}, {MWP}-1{A}). {T}he {T}ahiti {C}-14 record documents complex changes in the global carbon cycle due to variations in the exchange rates between its different reservoirs. {T}hird, during the {H}einrich event 1, the {T}ahiti record disagrees with the {C}ariaco record, but is in broad agreement with other marine and continental data.}, keywords = {{TAHITI}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{R}adiocarbon}, volume = {55}, numero = {4}, pages = {1947--1974}, ISSN = {0033-8222}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.2458/azu_js_rc.v55i2.16134}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010061286}, }
