@article{fdi:010061254, title = {{D}esulfotomaculum peckii sp nov., a moderately thermophilic member of the genus {D}esulfotomaculum, isolated from an upflow anaerobic filter treating abattoir wastewaters}, author = {{J}abari, {L}. and {G}announ, {H}. and {C}ayol, {J}. {L}. and {H}amdi, {M}. and {O}llivier, {B}ernard and {F}auque, {G}. and {F}ardeau, {M}arie-{L}aure}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} novel anaerobic thermophilic sulfate-reducing bacterium designated strain {LINDBHT}1({T}) was isolated from an anaerobic digester treating abattoir wastewaters in {T}unisia. {S}train {LINDBHT}1({T}) grew at temperatures between 50 and 65 degrees {C} (optimum 55-60 degrees {C}), and at p{H} between 5.9 and 9.2 (optimum p{H} 6.0-6.8). {S}train {LINDBHT}1({T}) required salt for growth (1-40 g {N}a{C}l l(-1)), with an optimum of 20-30 g l(-1). {I}n the presence of sulfate as terminal electron acceptor, strain {LINDBHT}1({T}) used {H}2/{CO}2, propanol, butanol and ethanol as carbon and energy sources but fumarate, formate, lactate and pyruvate were not utilized. {B}utanol was converted to butyrate, while propanol and ethanol were oxidized to propionate and acetate, respectively. {S}ulfate, sulfite and thiosulfate were utilized as terminal electron acceptors but elemental sulfur, iron ({III}), fumarate, nitrate and nitrite were not used. {T}he {G}+{C} content of the genomic {DNA} was 44.4 mol%. {P}hylogenetic analysis of the small-subunit r{RNA} gene sequence indicated that strain {LINDBHT}1({T}) was affiliated to the genus {D}esulfotomaculum with the type strains of {D}esulfotomaculum halophilum and {D}esulfotomaculum alkaliphilum as its closest phylogenetic relatives (about 89% similarity). {T}his strain represents a novel species of the genus {D}esulfotomaculum, {D}esulfotomaculum peckii sp. nov.; the type strain is {LINDBHT}1({T}) (={DSM} 23769({T})-{JCM} 17209({T})).}, keywords = {{TUNISIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {63}, numero = {6}, pages = {2082--2087}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1099/ijs.0.043893-0}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010061254}, }
