@article{fdi:010061253, title = {{F}onticella tunisiensis gen. nov., sp. nov., isolated from a hot spring}, author = {{F}raj, {B}. and {B}en {H}ania, {W}ajdi and {P}ostec, {A}. and {H}amdi, {M}. and {O}llivier, {B}ernard and {F}ardeau, {M}arie-{L}aure}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} strictly anaerobic, moderately thermophilic, halotolerant rod, designated {BELH}25({T}), was isolated from a water sample of a {T}unisian hot spring. {C}ells were non-motile, 2-6 mu m long and 0.4-0.6 mu m wide, appearing singly or in pairs. {T}he isolate grew at 45-70 degrees {C} (optimum 55 degrees {C}), at p{H} 6.2-8.0 (optimum p{H} 7.0) and with 0-4% {N}a{C}l (optimum 0-2.0%). {S}ulfate, thiosulfate, elemental sulfur, sulfite, nitrate and nitrite were not used as terminal electron acceptors. {S}train {BELH}25{T} used cellobiose, fructose, galactose, glucose, maltose, mannose, sucrose, starch and yeast extract as electron donors. {T}he main fermentation products from glucose metabolism were formate, acetate, ethanol and {CO}2. {T}he predominant cellular fatty acids were iso-{C}-15:0, iso-{C}-17:0 and anteiso-{C}-15:0. {T}he {DNA} {G}+{C} content was 37.2 mol%. {P}hylogenetic analysis of the 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence indicated that strain {BELH}25({T}) was most closely related to {C}aloramator viterbiensis {JW}/{MS}-{VS}5({T}) and {F}ervidicella metallireducens {A}e{B}({T}) (92.2 and 92.1% sequence similarity, respectively), and the isolate was positioned approximately equidistantly between these genera. {B}ased on phenotypic, phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic characteristics, strain {BELH}25({T}) is proposed to be a member of a novel species of a novel genus within the order {C}lostridiales, family {C}lostridiaceae, for which the name {F}onticella tunisiensis gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. {T}he type strain of the type species is {BELH}25({T}) (={DSM} 24455({T})={JCM} 17559({T})).}, keywords = {{TUNISIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {63}, numero = {6}, pages = {1947--1950}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1099/ijs.0.041947-0}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010061253}, }
