@article{fdi:010061252, title = {{C}aldicoprobacter guelmensis sp. nov., a thermophilic, anaerobic, xylanolytic bacterium isolated from a hot spring}, author = {{B}ouanane-{D}arenfed, {A}. and {B}en {H}ania, {W}ajdi and {H}acene, {H}. and {C}ayol, {J}. {L}. and {O}llivier, {B}ernard and {F}ardeau, {M}arie-{L}aure}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} hyperthermophilic anaerobic bacterium, designated {D}2{C}22({T}), was isolated from the hydrothermal hot spring of {G}uelma in north-east {A}lgeria. {T}he isolate was a {G}ram-stain-positive, non-sporulating, non-motile rod, appearing singly or in pairs (0.3-0.4x8.0-9.0 mu m). {S}train {D}2{C}22({T}) grew anaerobically at 45-85 degrees {C} (optimum 65 degrees {C}), at p{H} 5-9 (optimum p{H} 6.8) and with 0-20 g {N}a{C}l l(-1). {S}train {D}2{C}22({T}) used glucose, galactose, lactose, fructose, ribose, xylose, arabinose, maltose, cellobiose, mannose, melibiose, sucrose, xylan and pyruvate (only in the presence of yeast extract or biotrypticase) as electron donors. {T}he end products from glucose fermentation were acetate, lactate, {CO}2 and {H}-2. {N}itrate, nitrite, thiosulfate, elemental sulfur, sulfate and sulfite were not used as electron acceptors. {T}he predominant cellular fatty acids were iso-{C}-15:0 and iso-{C}-17:0. {T}he {DNA} {G}+{C} content was 41.6 mol%. {P}hylogenetic analysis of the 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence indicated that strain {D}2{C}22({T}) was most closely related to {C}aldicoprobacter oshimai {JW}/{HY}-331({T}), {C}aldicoprobacter algeriensis {TH}7{C}1({T}) and {A}cetomicrobium faecale {DSM} 20678({T}) (95.5, 95.5 and 95.3% 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence similarity, respectively). {B}ased on phenotypic, phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic characteristics, strain {D}2{C}22({T}) is proposed to be a representative of a novel species of the genus {C}aldicoprobacter within the order {C}lostridiales, for which the name {C}aldicoprobacter guelmensis sp. nov. is proposed. {T}he type strain is {D}2{C}22({T}) (={DSM} 24605({T})={JCM} 17646({T})).}, keywords = {{ALGERIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {63}, numero = {6}, pages = {2049--2053}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1099/ijs.0.043497-0}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010061252}, }
