@article{fdi:010060738, title = {{T}he first genomic and proteomic characterization of a deep-sea sulfate reducer : insights into the piezophilic lifestyle of {D}esulfovibrio piezophilus}, author = {{P}radel, {N}athalie and {J}i, {B}. {Y}. and {G}imenez, {G}. and {T}alla, {E}. and {L}enoble, {P}. and {G}arel, {M}. and {T}amburini, {C}. and {F}ourquet, {P}. and {L}ebrun, {R}. and {B}ertin, {P}. and {D}enis, {Y}. and {P}ophillat, {M}. and {B}arbe, {V}. and {O}llivier, {B}ernard and {D}olla, {A}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{D}esulfovibrio piezophilus strain {C}1{TLV}30({T}) is a piezophilic anaerobe that was isolated from wood falls in the {M}editerranean deep-sea. {D}. piezophilus represents a unique model for studying the adaptation of sulfate-reducing bacteria to hydrostatic pressure. {H}ere, we report the 3.6 {M}bp genome sequence of this piezophilic bacterium. {A}n analysis of the genome revealed the presence of seven genomic islands as well as gene clusters that are most likely linked to life at a high hydrostatic pressure. {C}omparative genomics and differential proteomics identified the transport of solutes and amino acids as well as amino acid metabolism as major cellular processes for the adaptation of this bacterium to hydrostatic pressure. {I}n addition, the proteome profiles showed that the abundance of key enzymes that are involved in sulfate reduction was dependent on hydrostatic pressure. {A} comparative analysis of orthologs from the non-piezophilic marine bacterium {D}. salexigens and {D}. piezophilus identified aspartic acid, glutamic acid, lysine, asparagine, serine and tyrosine as the amino acids preferentially replaced by arginine, histidine, alanine and threonine in the piezophilic strain. {T}his work reveals the adaptation strategies developed by a sulfate reducer to a deep-sea lifestyle.}, keywords = {{ZONE} {MEDITERRANEENNE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}los {O}ne}, volume = {8}, numero = {1}, pages = {e55130}, ISSN = {1932-6203}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1371/journal.pone.0055130}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010060738}, }
