@article{fdi:010060649, title = {{S}eismic activity offshore {M}artinique and {D}ominica islands ({C}entral {L}esser {A}ntilles subduction zone) from temporary onshore and offshore seismic networks}, author = {{R}uiz, {M}. and {G}alve, {A}. and {M}onfret, {T}ony and {S}apin, {M}. and {C}harvis, {P}hilippe and {L}aigle, {M}. and {E}vain, {M}. and {H}irn, {A}. and {F}lueh, {E}. and {G}allart, {J}. and {D}iaz, {J}. and {L}ebrun, {J}. {F}. and {H}ello, {Y}ann}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}his work focuses on the analysis of a unique set of seismological data recorded by two temporary networks of seismometers deployed onshore and offshore in the {C}entral {L}esser {A}ntilles {I}sland {A}rc from {M}artinique to {G}uadeloupe islands. {D}uring the whole recording period, extending from {J}anuary to the end of {A}ugust 2007, more than 1300 local seismic events were detected in this area. {A} subset of 769 earthquakes was located precisely by using {H}ypo{E}llipse. {W}e also computed focal mechanisms using {P}-wave polarities of the best azimuthally constrained earthquakes. {W}e detected earthquakes beneath the {C}aribbean forearc and in the {A}tlantic oceanic plate as well. {A}t depth seismicity delineates the {W}adati-{B}enioff {Z}one down to 170 km depth. {T}he main seismic activity is concentrated in the lower crust and in the mantle wedge, close to the island arc beneath an inner forearc domain in comparison to an outer forearc domain where little seismicity is observed. {W}e propose that the difference of the seismicity beneath the inner and the outer forearc is related to a difference of crustal structure between the inner forearc interpreted as a dense, thick and rigid crustal block and the lighter and more flexible outer forearc. {S}eismicity is enhanced beneath the inner forearc because it likely increases the vertical stress applied to the subducting plate.}, keywords = {{L}esser {A}ntilles {A}rc ; {S}ubduction zone ; {S}eismicity ; {O}cean bottom ; seismometer ; {MARTINIQUE} ; {DOMINIQUE} ; {ANTILLES} {FRANCAISES}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{T}ectonophysics}, volume = {603}, numero = {}, pages = {68--78}, ISSN = {0040-1951}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1016/j.tecto.2011.08.006}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010060649}, }
