@article{fdi:010060641, title = {{R}hizobial synthesized cytokinins contribute to but are not essential for the symbiotic interaction between photosynthetic {B}radyrhizobia and {A}eschynomene legumes}, author = {{P}odlesakova, {K}. and {F}ardoux, {J}o{\¨e}l and {P}atrel, {D}elphine and {B}onaldi, {K}. and {N}ovak, {O}. and {S}trnad, {M}. and {G}iraud, {E}ric and {S}pichal, {L}. and {N}ouwen, {N}ico}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{C}ytokinins ({CK}) play an important role in the formation of nitrogen-fixing root nodules. {I}t has been known for years that rhizobia secrete {CK} in the extracellular medium but whether they play a role in nodule formation is not known. {W}e have examined this question using the photosynthetic {B}radyrhizobium sp. strain {ORS}285 which is able to nodulate {A}eschynomene afraspera and {A}. indica using a {N}od-dependent or {N}od-independent symbiotic process, respectively. {CK} profiling showed that the most abundant {CK} secreted by {B}radyrhizobium sp. strain {ORS}285 are the 2{M}e{S} (2-methylthiol) derivatives of trans-zeatin and isopentenyladenine. {I}n their pure form, these {CK} can activate legume {CK} receptors in vitro, and their exogenous addition induced nodule-like structures on host plants. {D}eletion of the mia{A} gene showed that transfer {RNA} degradation is the source of {CK} production in {B}radyrhizobium sp. strain {ORS}285. {I}n nodulation studies performed with {A}. indica and {A}. afraspera, the mia{A} mutant had a 1-day delay in nodulation and nitrogen fixation. {M}oreover, {A}. indica plants formed considerably smaller but more abundant nodules when inoculated with the mia{A} mutant. {T}hese data show that {CK} produced by {B}radyrhizobium sp. strain {ORS}285 are not the key signal triggering nodule formation during the {N}od-independent symbiosis but they contribute positively to nodule development in {A}eschynomene plants.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{M}olecular {P}lant-{M}icrobe {I}nteractions}, volume = {26}, numero = {10}, pages = {1232--1238}, ISSN = {0894-0282}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1094/mpmi-03-13-0076-r}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010060641}, }
