@article{fdi:010060467, title = {{I}solation of {T}hermovenabulum gondwanense from a {F}rench hot spring and emended description of the species}, author = {{P}radel, {N}athalie and {B}artoli, {M}. and {B}ernadac, {A}. and {G}imenez, {G}. and {O}llivier, {B}ernard and {F}ardeau, {M}arie-{L}aure}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A}n anaerobic thermophilic bacterium designated {CA}9{F}1 was isolated from a thermal spring in {F}rance. {S}train {CA}9{F}1 was observed to grow at temperatures between 55 and 70 {A} degrees {C} (optimum 65 {A} degrees {C}) and at p{H} between 6.8 and 9.5 (optimum p{H} 7.4). {S}train {CA}9{F}1 does not require salt for growth (0-10 g l(-1) {N}a{C}l), with an optimum at 1 g l(-1). {T}he {DNA} {G}+{C} content was determined to be 38.5 mol% ({T}m). {T}he major cellular fatty acids identified were {C}-15:0, {C}-16:0, {C}-17:0 iso. {B}ased on phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and genotypic properties, strain {CA}9{F}1 was identified as {T}hermovenabulum gondwanense and this species was studied in more detail. {S}train {CA}9{F}1 is a {G}ram-positive bacterium which forms a complex and regular multilayered cell wall structure, here characterised as being due to the presence of an {S}-layer. {T}he network covers the entire cell surface and forms a hexagonal structure resembling that observed for {D}einococcus radiodurans. {T}he main protein component of the {S}-layer possesses domains comparable to that of the {S}-layer protein of {H}alothermothrix orenii. {T}he characteristics of the strain were compared to that of {T}. gondwanese {R}270({T}) isolated from microbial mats thriving in the thermal waters of a {G}reat {A}rtesian {B}asin bore runoff channel at 66 {A} degrees {C}, in {A}ustralia. {S}ignificant differences were observed between {CA}9{F}1 and the type strain. {O}ne of the major physiological differences is the inability of {CA}9{F}1 to reduce {F}e({III}). {A}n emended description of {T}. gondwanense is given.}, keywords = {{T}hermovenabulum gondwanense ; {T}hermophilic ; {S}-layer ; {H}ot spring ; {A}naerobic ; {FRANCE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{A}ntonie {V}an {L}eeuwenhoek {I}nternational = {J}ournal of {G}eneral and {M}olecular {M}icrobiology}, volume = {104}, numero = {2}, pages = {271--279}, ISSN = {0003-6072}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1007/s10482-013-9947-8}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010060467}, }
