@article{fdi:010060436, title = {{C}ytogenetic analysis of {A}nopheles ovengensis revealed high structural divergence of chromosomes in the {A}nopheles nili group}, author = {{S}harakhova, {M}. {V}. and {P}eery, {A}. and {A}ntonio-{N}kondjio, {C}. and {X}ia, {A}. and {N}do, {C}. and {A}wono-{A}mbene, {P}. and {S}imard, {F}r{\'e}d{\'e}ric and {S}harakhov, {I}. {V}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{C}ytogenetic analysis is an informative classical approach to understanding the relationships among members in a group of closely related species of mosquitoes. {A}nopheles ovengensis is a recently discovered species of the {A}nopheles nil group and is one of the important malaria vectors in the {A}frican equatorial forest. {T}his study characterized polytene chromosomes of {A}n. ovengensis and compared them with polytene chromosomes of {A}n. nili. {U}sing fluorescent in situ hybridization and chromosome banding pattern comparison we have established correspondence between chromosomal arms of {A}n. ovengensis and {A}n. nil. {A}nalysis of chromosome morphology in the two species revealed a limited similarity in the banding patterns. {T}he most extensive reorganization occurs in pericentromeric and intercalary heterochromatin. {C}hromosomes of {A}n. ovengensis are joined together by a diffuse chromocenter and they have two large regions of intercalary heterochromatin in arms 2{L} and 3{R}. {I}n contrast, the chromocenter and intercalary heterochromatin are not seen in {A}n. nil chromosomes. {C}omparative analysis of the arm association suggests the occurrence of a whole-arm translocation between the two members of the group. {T}he observed, substantial reorganizations of chromosome structure implies either a rapid rate of chromosome evolution in the {A}n. nil group, or that the two species belong to different taxonomic groups within subgenus {C}ellia.}, keywords = {{M}alaria mosquito ; {A}nopheles ovengensis ; {A}nopheles nili ; {P}olytene ; chromosomes ; {F}luorescent in situ hybridization ; {AFRIQUE} {EQUATORIALE} ; {CAMEROUN} ; {BURKINA} {FASO}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nfection {G}enetics and {E}volution}, volume = {16}, numero = {}, pages = {341--348}, ISSN = {1567-1348}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1016/j.meegid.2013.03.010}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010060436}, }
