@article{fdi:010060435, title = {{C}lever generation of rich {SPARQL} queries from annotated relational schema : application to {S}emantic {W}eb {S}ervice creation for biological databases}, author = {{W}ollbrett, {J}. and {L}armande, {P}ierre and de {L}amotte, {F}. and {R}uiz, {M}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}ackground: {I}n recent years, a large amount of "-omics" data have been produced. {H}owever, these data are stored in many different species-specific databases that are managed by different institutes and laboratories. {B}iologists often need to find and assemble data from disparate sources to perform certain analyses. {S}earching for these data and assembling them is a time-consuming task. {T}he {S}emantic {W}eb helps to facilitate interoperability across databases. {A} common approach involves the development of wrapper systems that map a relational database schema onto existing domain ontologies. {H}owever, few attempts have been made to automate the creation of such wrappers. {R}esults: {W}e developed a framework, named {B}io{S}emantic, for the creation of {S}emantic {W}eb {S}ervices that are applicable to relational biological databases. {T}his framework makes use of both {S}emantic {W}eb and {W}eb {S}ervices technologies and can be divided into two main parts: (i) the generation and semi-automatic annotation of an {RDF} view; and (ii) the automatic generation of {SPARQL} queries and their integration into {S}emantic {W}eb {S}ervices backbones. {W}e have used our framework to integrate genomic data from different plant databases. {C}onclusions: {B}io{S}emantic is a framework that was designed to speed integration of relational databases. {W}e present how it can be used to speed the development of {S}emantic {W}eb {S}ervices for existing relational biological databases. {C}urrently, it creates and annotates {RDF} views that enable the automatic generation of {SPARQL} queries. {W}eb {S}ervices are also created and deployed automatically, and the semantic annotations of our {W}eb {S}ervices are added automatically using {SAWSDL} attributes. {B}io{S}emantic is downloadable at http://southgreen.cirad.fr/?q=content/{B}iosemantic.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{B}mc {B}ioinformatics}, volume = {14}, numero = {}, pages = {126}, ISSN = {1471-2105}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1186/1471-2105-14-126}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010060435}, }
