@article{fdi:010058991, title = {{I}n vitro growth inhibitory effects of 13,28-epoxyoleanane triterpene saponins in cancer cells}, author = {{H}addad, {M}ohamed and {L}elamer, {A}nne-{C}{\'e}cile and {B}anuls, {L}. {M}. {Y}. and {V}asquez, {P}. and {C}arraz, {M}a{\¨e}lle and {V}aisberg, {A}. and {C}astillo, {D}. and {S}auvain, {M}ichel and {R}ojas, {R}. and {K}iss, {R}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}wo new 13,28-epoxyoleanane triterpene saponins, magnosides {A} (1) and {B} (2), were isolated from the 95% ethanolic extract of {C}ybianthus magnus ({M}ez) {P}ipoly roots. {T}heir structures were deduced by a combination of spectral analyses and chemical evidences as compared to data reported in the literature. {T}he hemolytic activity of both compounds was measured. {C}ompound 1 was shown to exhibit the strongest hemolytic activity with a {HD}50 of 3.8 mu {M} followed by 2 with a {HD}50 of 33.5 mu {M}. {T}he bioactivity of compounds 1 and 2 was also evaluated in vitro against different cellular models including {M}ycobacterium tuberculosis, {L}eishmania amazonensis axenic amastigotes, mouse peritoneal macrophages and eight cancer cell lines. {W}hile neither of the tested compounds displayed any activity against {M}. tuberculosis, both exhibited anti-leishmanial activity against axenic amastigotes as well as in vitro growth inhibitory activity against all tested cancer cell lines with {IC}50 growth inhibitory concentrations ranging between 4 mu {M} and 33 mu {M}. {T}he compounds displayed similar growth inhibitory activity in cancer cell lines sensitive to pro-apoptotic stimuli versus those displaying various levels of resistance to such stimuli. {Q}uantitative videomicroscopy analyses revealed that compounds 1 and 2 are cytotoxic.}, keywords = {{T}riterpene saponins ; {C}ybianthus magnus ; {L}eishmaniasis ; {C}ancer ; {I}n vitro}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}hytochemistry {L}etters}, volume = {6}, numero = {1}, pages = {128--134}, ISSN = {1874-3900}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1016/j.phytol.2012.11.011}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010058991}, }
