@article{fdi:010058217, title = {{TALE}1 from {X}anthomonas axonopodis pv. manihotis acts as a transcriptional activator in plant cells and is important for pathogenicity in cassava plants}, author = {{C}astiblanco, {L}. {F}. and {G}il, {J}. and {R}ojas, {A}. and {O}sorio, {D}. and {G}utierrez, {S}. and {M}unoz-{B}odnar, {A}. and {P}erez-{Q}uintero, {A}. {L}. and {K}oebnik, {R}alf and {S}zurek, {B}oris and {L}opez, {C}. and {R}estrepo, {S}. and {V}erdier, {V}al{\'e}rie and {B}ernal, {A}. {J}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{M}any plant-pathogenic bacteria suppress pathogen-associated molecular pattern ({PAMP})-triggered immunity by injecting effector proteins into the host cytoplasm during infection through the type {III} secretion system ({TTSS}). {T}his type {III} secretome plays an important role in bacterial pathogenicity in susceptible hosts. {X}anthomonas axonopodis pv. manihotis ({X}am), the causal agent of cassava bacterial blight, injects several effector proteins into the host cell, including {TALE}1{X}am. {T}his protein is a member of the {T}ranscriptional {A}ctivator-{L}ike effector ({TALE}) protein family, formerly known as the {A}vr{B}s3/{P}th{A} family. {TALE}1{X}am has 13.5 tandem repeats of 34 amino acids each, as well as two nuclear localization signals and an acidic activation domain at the {C}-terminus. {I}n this work, we demonstrate the importance of {TALE}1{X}am in the pathogenicity of {X}am. {W}e use versions of the gene that lack different domains in the protein in structurefunction studies to show that the eukaryotic domains at the 3' end are critical for pathogenicity. {I}n addition, we demonstrate that, similar to the characterized {TALE} proteins from other {X}anthomonas species, {TALE}1{X}am acts as a transcriptional activator in plant cells. {T}his is the first report of the identification of a {TALE} in {X}am, and contributes to our understanding of the pathogenicity mechanisms employed by this bacterium to colonize and cause disease in cassava.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{M}olecular {P}lant {P}athology}, volume = {14}, numero = {1}, pages = {84--95}, ISSN = {1464-6722}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1111/j.1364-3703.2012.00830.x}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010058217}, }
