@article{fdi:010057136, title = {{F}luctuations in the monthly discharge of {G}uyana {S}hield rivers, related to {P}acific and {A}tlantic climate variability}, author = {{L}abat, {D}. and {E}spinoza, {J}.{C}. and {R}onchail, {J}. and {C}ochonneau, {G}{\'e}rard and de {O}liveira, {E}. and {D}oudou, {J}ean-{C}laude and {G}uyot, {J}ean-{L}oup}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he discharge variability of the main rivers that drain the {G}uyana {S}hield is analysed over the last 50 years using cross-wavelet, coherence and composite analysis involving oceanic and atmospheric variables. {W}e highlight the overall hydro-climatological homogeneity of this region that allowed us to focus on the longest discharge time series available. {T}herefore, a wavelet cross-analysis was carried out between monthly and seasonal {M}aroni {R}iver discharge at the {L}anga {T}abiki station and selected climate indices. {T}his confirms a strong relationship between the hydrology of the {G}uyana {S}hield and the {P}acific sea-surface temperature ({SST}) fluctuations. {T}here is evidence of intermittent influence, of between inter-annual and near decadal scales, of the {A}tlantic {SST} fluctuations, in particular around 1970 and 1990. {F}inally, we show that the links between oceanic regions and high discharge in the rivers of {G}uyana are realized through the reinforcement of the {W}alker and {H}adley cells between the {A}mazon and the adjacent oceans and through decreased trade winds and monsoon flux that favour the persistence of humidity over the {G}uyana {S}hield. {N}ous analysons la variabilit{\'e} des principaux fleuves qui drainent le bouclier guyanais au cours des cinquante derni{\`e}res ann{\'e}es en utilisant les analyses en ondelettes crois{\'e}es, la coh{\'e}rence en ondelettes et l_analyse composite en prenant en compte des for{\c{c}}ages oc{\'e}aniques et atmosph{\'e}riques. {N}ous avons tout d_abord mis en {\'e}vidence une homog{\'e}n{\'e}it{\'e} hydro-climatologique globale dans cette r{\'e}gion qui nous a permis de nous concentrer sur les s{\'e}ries hydrologiques disponibles les plus longues. {A}insi, une analyse en ondelettes crois{\'e}es a {\'e}t{\'e} r{\'e}alis{\'e}e entre les d{\'e}bits mensuels et saisonniers du fleuve {M}aroni {\`a} la station de {L}anga {T}abiki et diff{\'e}rents indices climatiques. {E}lle a confirm{\'e} une relation forte entre l_hydrologie du plateau guyanais et les variations des temp{\'e}ratures de surface du {P}acifique. {N}ous avons pu mettre en {\'e}vidence une influence intermittente des temp{\'e}ratures de surface de l_{O}c{\'e}an {A}tlantique {\`a} des {\'e}chelles interannuelles et d{\'e}cennales, en particulier autour des ann{\'e}es 1970 et 1990. {E}nfin, nous avons montr{\'e} que les liens entre les influences des diff{\'e}rentes r{\'e}gions oc{\'e}aniques et les d{\'e}bits maximaux relev{\'e}s dans les fleuves guyanais sont influenc{\'e}s d_une part par le renforcement des cellules de {W}alker et {H}adley entre l_{A}mazone et les oc{\'e}ans adjacents, et d_autre part par une diminution des vents et des flux issus de l_effet de mousson qui favorisent la persistance d_humidit{\'e} au dessus du bouclier guyanais.}, keywords = {hydro-climatology ; wavelet analysis ; {SST}-hydrology connections ; {G}uyana ; hydroclimatologie ; analyse en ondelettes ; connections entre hydrologie et temp{\'e}rature de surface des oc{\'e}ans ; {G}uyane ; {GUYANE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal des {S}ciences {H}ydrologiques = {H}ydrological {S}ciences {J}ournal}, volume = {57}, numero = {6}, pages = {1081--1091}, ISSN = {0262-6667}, year = {2012}, DOI = {10.1080/02626667.2012.695074}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010057136}, }
