@article{fdi:010054347, title = {{M}ultiple markers pyrosequencing reveals highly diverse and host-specific fungal communities on the mangrove trees {A}vicennia marina and {R}hizophora stylosa}, author = {{A}rfi, {Y}. and {B}uee, {M}. and {M}archand, {C}yril and {L}evasseur, {A}. and {R}ecord, {E}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{F}ungi are important actors in ecological processes and trophic webs in mangroves. {A}lthough saprophytic fungi occurring in the intertidal part of mangrove have been well studied, little is known about the diversity and structure of the fungal communities in this ecosystem or about the importance of functional groups like pathogens and mutualists. {U}sing tag-encoded 454 pyrosequencing of the {ITS}1, {ITS}2, nu-ssu-{V}5 and nu-ssu-{V}7 regions, we studied and compared the fungal communities found on the marine and aerial parts of {A}vicennia marina and {R}hizophora stylosa trees in a mangrove in {N}ew {C}aledonia. {A} total of 209 544 reads were analysed, corresponding to several thousand molecular operational taxonomic units ({OTU}). {T}here is a marked zonation in the species distribution, with most of the {OTU} being found specifically in one of the microhabitat studied. {A}scomycetes are the dominant phylum (82%), {B}asidiomycetes are very rare (3%), and 15% of the sequences correspond to unknown taxa. {O}ur results indicate that host specificity is a key factor in the distribution of the highly diverse fungal communities, in both the aerial and intertidal parts of the trees. {T}his study also validates the usefulness of multiple markers in tag-encoded pyrosequencing to consolidate and refine the assessment of the taxonomic diversity.}, keywords = {454 pyrosequencing ; community structure ; fungal diversity ; host ; specificity ; mangrove ; marine fungi ; {NOUVELLE} {CALEDONIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{F}ems {M}icrobiology {E}cology}, volume = {79}, numero = {2}, pages = {433--444}, ISSN = {0168-6496}, year = {2012}, DOI = {10.1111/j.1574-6941.2011.01236.x}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010054347}, }
