@article{fdi:010053763, title = {{H}ydrogeology of {S}tromboli volcano, {A}eolian {I}slands ({I}taly) from the interpretation of resistivity tomograms, self-potential, soil temperature and soil {CO}2 concentration measurements}, author = {{R}evil, {A}. and {F}inizola, {A}. and {R}icci, {T}. and {D}elcher, {E}. and {P}eltier, {A}. and {B}arde-{C}abusson, {S}. and {A}vard, {G}. and {B}ailly, {T}. and {B}ennati, {L}. and {B}yrdina, {S}vetlana and {C}olonge, {J}. and {D}i {G}angi, {F}. and {D}ouillet, {G}. and {L}upi, {M}. and {L}etort, {J}. and {S}un, {E}. {T}. {H}.}, abstract = {{T}o gain a better insight of the hydrogeology and the location of the main tectonic faults of {S}tromboli volcano in {I}taly, we collected electrical resistivity measurements, soil {CO}2 concentrations, temperature and self-potential measurements along two profiles. {T}hese two profiles started at the village of {G}inostra in the southwest part of the island. {T}he first profile (4.8 km in length) ended up at the village of {S}cari in the north east part of the volcano and the second one (3.5 km in length) at {F}orgia {V}ecchia beach, in the eastern part of the island. {T}hese data were used to provide insights regarding the position of shallow aquifers and the extension of the hydrothermal system. {T}his large-scale study is complemented by two high-resolution studies, one at the {P}izzo area (near the active vents) and one at {R}ina {G}rande where flank collapse areas can be observed. {T}he {P}izzo corresponds to one of the main degassing structure of the hydrothermal system. {T}he main degassing area is localized along a higher permeability area corresponding to the head of the gliding plane of the {R}ina {G}rande sector collapse. {W}e found that the self-potential data reveal the position of an aquifer above the villages of {S}cari and {S}an {V}incenzo. {W}e provide an estimate of the depth of this aquifer from these data. {T}he lateral extension of the hydrothermal system (resistivity similar to 15-60 ohm m) is broader than anticipated extending in the direction of the villages of {S}cari and {S}an {V}incenzo (in agreement with temperature data recorded in shallow wells). {T}he lateral extension of the hydrothermal system reaches the lower third of the {R}ina {G}rande sector collapse area in the eastern part of the island. {T}he hydrothermal body in this area is blocked by an old collapse boundary. {T}his position of the hydrothermal body is consistent with low values of the magnetization (<2.5 {A} m(-1)) from previously published work. {T}he presence of the hydrothermal body below {R}ina {G}rande raises questions about the mechanical stability of this flank of the edifice.}, keywords = {{T}omography ; {E}lectrical properties ; {H}ydrogeophysics ; {V}olcano monitoring}, journal = {{G}eophysical {J}ournal {I}nternational}, volume = {186}, numero = {3}, pages = {1078--1094}, ISSN = {0956-540{X}}, year = {2011}, DOI = {10.1111/j.1365-246{X}.2011.05112.x}, URL = {http://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010053763}, }
