@article{fdi:010053564, title = {{M}odern pollen rain, vegetation and climate in {B}olivian ecoregions}, author = {{O}rtuno, {T}. and {L}edru, {M}arie-{P}ierre and {C}heddadi, {R}. and {K}uentz, {A}. and {F}avier, {C}. and {B}eck, {S}.}, abstract = {{T}he aim of this study was to improve our understanding of the relationship between modem pollen rain, vegetation and climate in {B}olivia, and to provide a link to interpret the fossil pollen record. {T}en ecoregions were investigated: southern {P}una, northern {P}una, {Y}ungas, pre-{P}una, {G}ran {C}haco, {C}haco {C}hiquitano, {T}ucuman forest, inter-{A}ndean dry forest, flooded savanna, and southwest {A}mazon forest. {F}orty soil surface samples were collected along an elevational transect from 4588 m to 160 m in 10 ecoregions and 16 sub-ecoregions. {T}he vegetation in each sampling plot was described and the statistical analyses were performed on the pollen data set. {E}ach ecoregion was distinguished by its pollen content and indicators. {S}tatistical analysis performed on 26 selected pollen taxa enabled us to identify seven groups of pollen assemblages. {T}axa transported out of their source ecoregion were also identified. {T}he two {P}unas were grouped in one group and all the dry forests were grouped together. {S}tatistical regressions between pollen indicators and elevation, precipitation, and temperature were computed. {T}hese data revealed clearly separated {A}steraceae (high elevation, low precipitation and low temperature) from {A}recaceae (low elevation, high precipitation and high temperature). {M}ultivariate analyses of the whole pollen data set (including all the taxa) attest to the distribution of the 10 ecoregions as a function of climate. {T}his good predictability is promising for future fossil analysis and vegetation mapping.}, keywords = {pollen rain ; {B}olivia ; vegetation ; tropics ; calibration ; climate}, journal = {{R}eview of {P}alaeobotany and {P}alynology}, volume = {165}, numero = {1-2}, pages = {61--74}, ISSN = {0034-6667}, year = {2011}, DOI = {10.1016/j.revpalbo.2011.02.004}, URL = {http://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010053564}, }
