@article{fdi:010052968, title = {{B}iodiversity of deep-sea organisms associated with sunken-wood or other organic remains sampled in the tropical {I}ndo-{P}acific}, author = {{S}amadi, {S}arah and {C}orbari, {L}. and {L}orion, {J}. and {H}ourdez, {S}. and {H}aga, {T}. and {D}upont, {J}. and {B}oisselier, {M}. {C}. and {R}icher de {F}orges, {B}ertrand}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}ince 80's, fauna associated to sunken woods has been collected during exploration cruises of the {T}ropical {D}eep-{S}ea {B}enthos cruises program ({TDSB}). {I}n 2004 we started a specific program of cruises devoted to the exploration of sunken-wood habitats. {S}even cruises provided sunken-wood organisms in depth ranging from 100-1 500 metres, at three locations corresponding to large basins of sunken-wood accumulation in the south west {P}acific: (i) {P}hilippines, (ii) {S}alomon islands and (iii) {V}anuatu. {E}xtra-samples from other {TDSB} cruises are also available. {I}ndeed, far from these basins, pieces of woods are unevenly catch by trawling and dredging and these erratic substrata, found for example on seamounts, are usually colonized by a typical sunken wood fauna. {T}o enhance the collection of species associated to organic substrata that are difficult to catch at the deep sea floor, we also immersed down traps containing different kinds of baits: pieces of wood, blue whale bones, green turtle shell, and stag horn. {T}hese experiments deployed between 12-30 months off {N}ew {C}aledionia and {V}anuatu. {S}amples yielded an abundant and original fauna, notably {B}athymodiolinae and {G}alatheids. {S}pecific diversity of collected zoological groups with taxa specific to this habitat was explored using molecular tools. {H}ere this paper, we report the preliminary finding about the biodiversity of major zoological groups but also fungi found during this program of cruises.}, keywords = {{S}unken-wood ; {E}xploration cruises ; {B}iodiversity ; {D}eep-sea}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{C}ahiers de {B}iologie {M}arine}, volume = {51}, numero = {4}, pages = {459--466}, ISSN = {0007-9723}, year = {2010}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010052968}, }
