@article{fdi:010046259, title = {{P}olyopisthocotylean monogeneans from carangid fishes off {Q}ueensland, {A}ustralia and {N}ew {C}aledonia, with a description of {H}eteromicrocotyloides megaspinosus sp nov}, author = {{B}arton, {D}. {P}. and {B}eaufrere, {C}. and {J}ustine, {J}ean-{L}ou and {W}hittington, {I}. {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{G}ills of carangid fishes in {A}ustralian waters are dominated by a diversity of polyopisthocotylean monogeneans. {T}his study updates current knowledge of polyopisthocotyleans from carangid hosts in waters along the {Q}ueensland coast of {A}ustralia and also off {N}ew {C}aledonia. {T}he discovery of {P}rotomicrocotyle celebesensis {Y}amaguti, 1953 is the first record for the genus in {A}ustralian waters and represents a new geographic location for the species, extending its distribution from {S}ulawesi, {I}ndonesia and {H}awaii to {A}ustralia. {F}urthermore, {C}aranx ignobilis and {C}arangoides fulvoguttatus are reported as new host records for {P}. celebesensis. {C}arangoides gymnostethus is recorded as a new host for {H}eteromicrocotyla australiensis {R}ohde, 1977 from a new geographic location, namely {L}izard {I}sland, {Q}ueensland. {H}eteromicrocotyloides mirabilis {R}ohde, 1977 is reported from the gills of {C}. fulvoguttatus off {L}izard {I}sland, {Q}ueensland representing a new geographic record. {H}eteromicrocotyloides megaspinosus sp. nov. is described from the gills of {C}. fulvoguttatus from {L}izard {I}sland, {Q}ueensland and {N}ew {C}aledonia. {T}he new species is distinguished from {H}. mirabilis by the larger number and size of spines in the male genital corona. {G}onoplasius carangis was collected from {P}seudocaranx dentex at {H}eron {I}sland, {Q}ueensland. {G}onoplasius longirostri is synonymised with {G}. carangis due to overlap in measurements and similar morphology. {T}he number of 'dorsal pits' in this taxon may not be a useful character because they can be cryptic and hard to see. {M}ost hosts from which these two {G}onoplasius species have been collected previously have been synonymised as {P}seudocaranx dentex except {C}aranx ascensionis which is now considered to be {C}. lugubris. {O}ur report of {G}. carangis from {P}. dentex at {H}eron {I}sland, {Q}ueensland is a new geographic record.}, keywords = {{NEMATODE} ; {PARASITE} ; {ESPECE} {NOUVELLE} ; {DESCRIPTION} ; {CLE} {DE} {DETERMINATION} ; {TAXONOMIE} ; {POISSON} {MARIN} ; {M}onogenea ; {P}olyopisthocotylea ; {H}eteromicrocotyloides megaspinosus sp. nov. ; {C}arangidae ; {A}ustralia ; {N}ew {C}aledonia ; {NOUVELLE} {CALEDONIE} ; {AUSTRALIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{A}cta {P}arasitologica}, volume = {54}, numero = {3}, pages = {205--217}, ISSN = {1230-2821}, year = {2009}, DOI = {10.2478/s11686-009-0038-y}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010046259}, }
