@article{fdi:010046149, title = {{Q}uaternary slip-rates of the {K}azerun and the {M}ain {R}ecent {F}aults : active strike-slip partitioning in the {Z}agros fold-and-thrust belt}, author = {{A}uthemayou, {C}. and {B}ellier, {O}. and {C}hardon, {D}ominique and {B}enedetti, {L}. and {M}alekzade, {Z}. and {C}laude, {C}. and {A}ngeletti, {B}. and {S}habanian, {E}. and {A}bbassi, {M}. {R}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he aim of this work is to constrain the {L}ate {Q}uaternary activity of two major dextral strike-slip faults of the {Z}agros fold-and-thrust belt of {S}outhern {I}ran, within the framework of right-oblique convergence between {A}rabia and {E}urasia. {T}he {NW}-trending {M}ain {R}ecent fault marks the rear of the belt along two thirds of its length. {I}ts southeastern tip connects to the northern termination of the {N}-trending {K}azerun {F}ault, which affects the entire width of the belt. {H}orizontal slip rates have been estimated on these two faults over the last 140 ka from lateral offsets of streams and fans and in situ cosmogenic {C}l-36 exposure dating of cobbles sampled on the surface of these geomorphic features. {C}ompared to {GPS} data, the obtained minimum slip rate of 3.5-12.5 mm yr(-1) on the {M}ain {R}ecent {F}ault implies strike-slip partitioning of the convergence along this fault. {M}inimum slip rate of the {K}azerun {F}ault is 2.5-4 mm yr(-1) for its northern strand, 1.5-3.5 mm yr(-1) for its central segment and is negligible for its southern segment. {T}hese results are consistent with southward distribution of the slip from along the {M}ain {R}ecent {F}ault to the longitudinal thrusts and folds of the fold-and-thrust belt through the {K}azerun {F}ault, with a decrease of slip from the southeastern tip of the {M}ain {R}ecent {F}ault towards the southern termination of the {K}azerun {F}ault. {T}he {K}azerun and associated faults form the horsetail termination of the {M}ain {R}ecent fault and may be seen as the propagating southeastern front of the fault system that accommodates indentation of {E}urasia by {A}rabia.}, keywords = {{S}eismicity and tectonics ; {C}ontinental neotectonics ; {C}ontinental tectonics : strike-slip and transform ; {T}ectonics and landscape evolution ; {IRAN}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{G}eophysical {J}ournal {I}nternational}, volume = {178}, numero = {1}, pages = {524--540}, ISSN = {0956-540{X}}, year = {2009}, DOI = {10.1111/j.1365-246{X}.2009.04191.x}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010046149}, }
