In order to clarify the systematic status of these two vectors of Trpanosoma cruzi and to infer their evolutionary relationships, we performed an enzymatic, morphometric and cytogenetic comparison of them, also taking into account two sister species not included in the group (T. arthurneivai and T wygodzinskyi). According to our results, T maculata and T pseudomaculata belong to distinct evolutionary lineages. Similarly, T arthurneivai topotypes from Minas Gerais form an independent isolated group by morphometrics. Our results also support the specific status of the Triatoma population from Sao Paulo State (formerly referred to T arthurneivai), and suggest the possibility that it is T wygodzinskyi. Finally, we suggest that only the arboricolous T pseudomaculata from northeast Brazil and the repicolous sister species originated from Paulo State should be classified together in the same group.
<targetAudience authority="marctarget">specialized</targetAudience><subject><topic>Triatoma maculata</topic><topic>T. pseudomaculata</topic><topic>T. arthuneivai</topic><topic>T. wygodzinskyi</topic><topic>multilocus enzyme electrophoresis MLEE</topic><topic>morphometrics</topic><topic>cytogenetics</topic><topic>taxonomy</topic><topic>phylogeny</topic></subject><classification authority="local">052 </classification><classification authority="local">020 </classification><relatedItem type="host"><titleInfo><title>Infection Genetics and Evolution</title></titleInfo><part><detail type="volume"><number>7</number></detail><detail type="issue"><number>4</number></detail><extent unit="pages"><start>469</start><end>475</end></extent></part><originInfo><dateIssued>2007</dateIssued></originInfo><identifier type="issn">1567-1348</identifier></relatedItem><identifier type="uri">http://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010040680</identifier><identifier type="doi">10.1016/j.meegid.2007.01.008</identifier><location><physicalLocation>IRD Bondy</physicalLocation><shelfLocator>F B010040680 ; LPZ B052GLOTRY SAN</shelfLocator><url usage="primary display" access="object in context">http://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010040680</url><url access="raw object">http://www.documentation.ird.fr/intranet/publi/2007/09/010040680.pdf</url></location><accessCondition type="restriction on access" displayLabel="Accès réservé">Accès réservé (Intranet de l'IRD)</accessCondition><recordInfo><recordContentSource>IRD - Base Horizon / Pleins textes</recordContentSource><recordCreationDate encoding="w3cdtf">2007-10-11</recordCreationDate><recordChangeDate encoding="w3cdtf">2010-08-04</recordChangeDate><recordIdentifier>fdi:010040680</recordIdentifier><languageOfCataloging><languageTerm authority="iso639-2b">fre</languageTerm></languageOfCataloging></recordInfo></mods></modsCollection>
