Wild populations of T. infestans appear widespread throughout the Andean valleys of Bolivia. In Cotapachi (2750 m asl), all sorts of rocky outcrops, regardless of their size. provided good refuges for T. infestans. Of the 1120 ecotopes investigated, 330 (29.5%) contained triatomines and 92% of the collected insects were nymphal instars. In the cold season, triatomine densities were similar in small and large outcrops. During the hot season. bug densities were higher in the larger outcrops, particularly in those located in peridomestic sites. T. infestans populations apparently produced one generation per year. Over half the sampled bugs were positive for T. cruzi infection. At Mataral (1750 m asl), a site located in the inter-Andean Chaco, a new morph of T. infestans was detected in a sylvatic environment.
<targetAudience authority="marctarget">specialized</targetAudience><subject><topic>Triatoma infestans</topic><topic>sylvatic populations</topic><topic>Trypanosoma cruzi</topic><topic>Andean valley</topic><topic>Bolivia</topic></subject><classification authority="local">052 </classification><relatedItem type="host"><titleInfo><title>Acta Tropica</title></titleInfo><part><detail type="volume"><number>102</number></detail><detail type="issue"><number>1</number></detail><extent unit="pages"><start>47</start><end>54</end></extent></part><originInfo><dateIssued>2007</dateIssued></originInfo><identifier type="issn">0001-706X</identifier></relatedItem><identifier type="uri">http://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010040660</identifier><identifier type="doi">10.1016/j.actatropica.2007.02.014</identifier><location><physicalLocation>IRD Bondy</physicalLocation><shelfLocator>F B010040660 ; LPZ B052GLOTRY COR</shelfLocator><url usage="primary display" access="object in context">http://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010040660</url><url access="raw object">http://www.documentation.ird.fr/intranet/publi/2007/09/010040660.pdf</url></location><accessCondition type="restriction on access" displayLabel="Accès réservé">Accès réservé (Intranet de l'IRD)</accessCondition><recordInfo><recordContentSource>IRD - Base Horizon / Pleins textes</recordContentSource><recordCreationDate encoding="w3cdtf">2007-10-11</recordCreationDate><recordChangeDate encoding="w3cdtf">2011-05-30</recordChangeDate><recordIdentifier>fdi:010040660</recordIdentifier><languageOfCataloging><languageTerm authority="iso639-2b">fre</languageTerm></languageOfCataloging></recordInfo></mods></modsCollection>
