@article{fdi:010037829, title = {{T}he {GRIP} deuterium-excess record}, author = {{J}ouzel, {J}. and {S}tievenard, {M}. and {J}ohnsen, {S}. {J}. and {L}andais, {A}. and {M}asson {D}elmotte, {V}. and {S}veinbjornsdottir, {A}. and {V}imeux, {F}ran{\c{c}}oise and von {G}rafenstein, {U}. and {W}hite, {J}. {W}. {C}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}ce cores from {G}reenland and {A}ntarctica are ideal archives for retrieving long time series of deuterium-excess (d = delta {D}-8 * delta {O}-18), a parameter influenced by conditions prevailing in the oceanic regions which provide moisture for polar snow. {T}he central {G}reenland {GRIP} deuterium-excess record has recently been interpreted in terms of oceanic source temperatures both for the {H}olocene and for the last glacial period, this approach being less straightforward for the latter period because of changes in the precipitation seasonality between glacial and interglacial periods. {T}his article examines why a conventional, or sea surface temperature, interpretation of the {GRIP} excess record seems inconsistent with inferred site and source temperature changes. {I}n addition, the {GRIP} excess record is extended back into the penultimate glacial period and we assess its geographic significance through a comparison with existing {D}ye 3 and {N}orth {GRIP} data. {W}e examine why low delta {D}/delta {O}-18 slopes observed during glacial times are associated with low deuterium-excess values. {S}imilarities between the {G}reenland {GRIP} and {A}ntarctic {V}ostok excess records are discussed in terms of potential links with insolation and insolation gradient changes. {F}inally, the isotope records in specific {DO} events are examined in light of intruiging differences between the isotope ratios (delta {D} or delta {O}-18) and the excess records that may result from a feedback mechanism linked with freshwater oceanic input.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{Q}uaternary {S}cience {R}eviews}, volume = {26}, numero = {1-2}, pages = {1--17}, ISSN = {0277-3791}, year = {2007}, DOI = {10.1016/j.quascirev.2006.07.015}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010037829}, }
