We showed that the mean TE insertion site number and the within-population insertion site polymorphism globally differed between the M and S molecular forms. The comparison of the TE insertion profiles of the populations revealed a significant differentiation between these two molecular forms (0.163 < Phi(ST) < 0.371). We cloned several insertions of a non-LTR retrotransposon (Aara8) that were fixed in one form and absent in the other one. The only insertion that could be clearly located on a chromosome arm mapped to cytological division 6 of chromosome X, confirming the importance of this region in the ongoing speciation between the M and S molecular forms.
<targetAudience authority="marctarget">specialized</targetAudience><subject><topic>Anopheles gambiae</topic><topic>insertion polymorphism</topic><topic>molecular forms</topic><topic>population genetics</topic><topic>speciation</topic><topic>transposable elements</topic></subject><classification authority="local">052 </classification><relatedItem type="host"><titleInfo>
Molecular Ecology
</titleInfo><part><detail type="volume"><number>16</number></detail><detail type="issue"><number>2</number></detail><extent unit="pages"><start>441</start><end>452</end></extent></part><originInfo><dateIssued>2007</dateIssued></originInfo><identifier type="issn">0962-1083</identifier></relatedItem><identifier type="uri">http://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010037777</identifier><identifier type="doi">10.1111/j.1365-294X.2006.03150.x</identifier><location><physicalLocation>IRD Bondy</physicalLocation><shelfLocator>F A010037777</shelfLocator>

</location><accessCondition type="restriction on access" displayLabel="Accès réservé">Accès réservé (Intranet de l'IRD)</accessCondition><recordInfo><recordContentSource>IRD - Base Horizon / Pleins textes</recordContentSource><recordCreationDate encoding="w3cdtf">2007-03-01</recordCreationDate><recordChangeDate encoding="w3cdtf">2010-08-04</recordChangeDate><recordIdentifier>fdi:010037777</recordIdentifier><languageOfCataloging><languageTerm authority="iso639-2b">fre</languageTerm></languageOfCataloging></recordInfo></mods></modsCollection>
