The weevil D. nitidulus, causes similar damage to that caused by Rhynchophorus palmarum (Coleoptera : Curculionidae : Rhynchophorinae) in plantations of peachpalm (Bactris gasipaes H.B.K. : Palmae) which produces heart of palm in the regin of Iquitos, Peruvian Amazon. The morphological characteristics that allow identification of adults of both species are presented. This may be important from a practical viewpoint. (Résumé d'auteur)
