  abstract = {{T}hree main tectonic periods are recognized between {K}immeridgian and {P}aleocene times in the {P}eruvian-{E}cuadorian margin. {T}he "{V}iru" period comprises a {K}immeridgian event probably equivalent to the {A}raucan phase of {A}rgentina and {C}hile, a {T}ithonian phase related to terrane accretions and collision tectonics along the {E}cuadorian margin and to a sudden extension along the north {P}eruvian margin, and a {B}erriasian event most probably originated by the incipient {S}outh {A}tlantic rifting. {T}he "{M}ochica" period begins with tensional and volcanic precursor events ({L}ate {A}ptian-earliest {A}lbian). {I}t continues with extensional effusions of coastal, back-arc or arc volcanic centres, which alternate with compressive crises ({E}arly and {M}iddle {A}lbian). {I}t ends with the accretion and deformation (thrusting ?) of the {A}lbian volcanic arc or back-arc volcanic system ({L}ate {A}lbian-{E}arly {M}iddle {C}enomanian). {T}he "{P}eruvian" phase starts with a paleogeographic change probably triggered by the incipient coastal uplift ({T}uronian-{C}oniacian boundary), and continues in the {L}ate {C}oniacian-{E}arly {S}antonian with the initiation of northeastward overthrusts located in the southwestern boundary of the western {T}rough. {I}t culminates in the latest {C}ampanian, with the creation of intermontane basis which express the onset of the southwestern thrusts, and of foreland basins related to the onset of new overthrusts located in the northeastern boundary of the western {T}rough. {A}n extensional regime was prbably dominant during the latest {J}urassic and {E}arly {C}retaceous times, leading to formation of the main sedimentary basins, with an apparent quiescence of the subduction-related volcanic systems...
