Generally speaking, illustrated publications tend to play a growing part in the introduction of local areas and in the perception of space in Japan. The very strong earthquake which happened in the Awaji and Hanshin region on the morning of January 17, 1995 is analyzed through young children's books published after the shock, whether they are dedicated to children or written by them. Destruction caused by this natural disaster, can be perceived at different levels. Adults are more sensitive to the interruption of all the networks which help to shape their daily life, while young children suffer deeply from the disappearance of their daily environment. Those illustrated books emphasize the underlying strength of Japanese society which are at work right after the earthquake and help to rebuild both human relations and city areas. (Résumé d'auteur)
