Common ideas about development are based on an illusion of sustainability and the primacy of material consumption. Most economists and political scientists believe that development implies globalization, rationalization, uniformity, industrialisation and scale economies. This paper tries to show that imagination, respect of diversity in environment and culture are able to create quality, even for the poorest inhabitants of the world. (Résumé d'auteur)
