Haiti and the Dominican Republic are two Caribbean nations whose cultural background is a mixture of European and African civilisations. But, historically, the two nations used to live back to back. That situation is the result of colonial heritage, since Haiti was a French colony, and the Dominican Republic is a former Spanish-colonized land.
