The dynamic nature of this visible agricultural domination is directly related to the cohesion of Mossi society (role played by tradesmen, extended families and the mortar of Islam). The analysis of regional economic changes (the success of corn and cotton production) and tension surrounding the control of land ownership and tenancy is best appreciated through an understanding of the social structure of the Mossi ethnic community.
