  abstract = {{T}he purse seiners of the {J}ava {S}ea use light and {F}ish {A}ggregating {D}evices ({FAD}) to catch the fish. {T}he use of such fishing devices invites questions on the relation which can exist between fish and the fishing vessels. {T}he use of acoustic cruises on fishing grounds, linked with the location of fishing vessels, can give us a first knowledge of such a relation. {I}n the {J}ava {S}ea, it seems that the fishermen are able to detect fish concentrations, even if they are close to the bottom. {T}hey increase a natural phenomenon which is the rising of this fish population at night. {W}ith the lights, they seem to alter the distribution of the fish within these concentrations, in order to aggregate it around the vessels and to catch it.
