  abstract = {{I}n the {C}allejon {I}nterandino (the plateau between the two cordilleras), where eroded volcanic soils (cangahua) are present, a survey has been done to estimate the proportion and methods of reclamation of these soils. {O}ther topics such as family structure, agricultural production unit ({PU}) area, crops and yields have also been studied. results have shown that small farmers have a low educational level and small {PU}. {N}early all of them are poor. {I}n these conditions cangahua reclamation is practised in order to increase the {PU} area. {A}lthough crop yields are very low, they are quite similar to those obtained from cropland soils.
