@inproceedings{fdi:010012914, title = {{S}ecuencia de transformacion de un suelo ferralitico en tepetate silicificado en la region de {X}alapa ({V}eracruz, {M}exico)}, author = {{R}ossignol, {J}ean-{P}ierre and {Q}uantin, {P}aul}, editor = {}, language = {{SPA}}, abstract = {{I}ndurated soils, called tepetates by the farmers, can be seen in the region of {X}alapa, {V}eracruz, {M}exico. {T}hey are located in the lower part of a topoclimatic sequence of soils developed on volcanic materials. {T}his sequence, located on the slope of the {C}ofre de {P}erote volcano toward the {G}ulf of {M}exico, stars at an altitude of 3,500 m. with a successive appearence of andosols and, lower down ferralitic soils and, at an altitude af 1,200 m., tepetate soils. {T}he representative soils were studied within the framework of the morphopedological map of the region. {T}he ferralitic soils are observed in the altitudinal hand between 1,200 and 1,500 m. where there is a subtropical climate with only a short dry season. {T}he tepetate soils appear in the zone where the dry season is 5 to 6 months long. {T}his work presents the changes from ferralitic soils to tepetate soils. {T}his change is progressively developed under two conditions of soils, acidity and alternative redoximorphy according to a climatic transition from an udic to an ustic moisture regime. {T}he silicification of tepetate soils is a result of these environmental conditions, with alternative wet and dry seasons.
