@incollection{fdi:010009476, title = {{C}ollision and strike-slip faulting in the {N}orthern {M}olucca sea ({P}hilippines and {I}ndonesia) : preliminary results of a morphotectonic study}, author = {{R}angin, {C} and {D}ahrin, {D}. and {Q}uebral, {R}. and {B}ader, {A}.{G}. and {C}adet, {J}.{P}. and {C}aglarcan, {G}. and {D}effontaines, {B}. and {D}eplus, {C}. and {C}orpus, {E}.{G}. and {H}all, {R}. and {H}ello, {Y}ann and {M}alod, {J}. and {L}allemand, {S}. and {L}ayugan, {D}.{B}. and {L}ouat, {R}{\'e}my and {M}orales, {R}. and {P}ankow, {K}. and {P}ubellier, {M}. and {P}opoff, {M}. and {R}odelas, {R}.{T}. and {Y}udho, {T}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} swath mapping, gravity and single channel seismic survey was carried out in the northern {M}olucca {S}ea with {R}.{V}. {L}'{A}talante. {P}reliminary interpretation of these data reveals the presence of an almost complete {S}angihe arc and forearc. {T}he {M}iangas-{P}ujada-{T}alaud ridge in the central part of the {M}olucca {S}ea appears to be a backstop within the {S}angihe forearc. {E}ast of the ridge very contrasting terranes are separated by a major {NW}-{SE} crustal discontinuity interpreted as a left-lateral strike-slip fault. {N}orth of 6°{N} the {P}hilipine {T}rench inner wall is dissected by {NW}-{SE} trending left-lateral strike-slip faults, resulting from the dominantly oblique convergence between colliding arcs. {S}outh of 6°{N} the westward subduction of the buoyant {S}nellius volcanic plateau, a fragment of the {H}almahera arc terrane, has induced the formation of a new plate boundary, the {P}hilippine {T}rench along what is interpreted as a former strike-slip fault zone. {E}ast of the {M}iangas-{P}ujada-{T}alaud ridge there is a wide sedimentary wedge separated from the {S}nellius {R}idge to the south by the major {NW}-{SE} crustal discontinuity. {T}he thickness of this wedge cannot be explained by subduction along the very young {P}hilippine {T}rench. {I}t could be either an accretionary wedge developed at the deformed leading edge of the {S}angihe forearc or be part of a former intra-arc basin which was part of the colliding {H}almahera arc terrane. {T}here is no clear evidence for accreted oceanic crust belonging to the recently subducted {M}olucca {S}ea. {T}he {M}iangas-{P}ujada-{T}alaud ridge is part of the {S}angihe forearc, and the ophiolites could represent its basement, uplifted along the outer arc ridge. {T}he dog-leg-shaped {P}hilippine {T}rench is propagating southward across the fragmented {H}almahera arc terrane and its southern segment could reactivate a former strike-slip fault zone.
