@article{fdi:010006015, title = {{R}eevaluating the classification of {H}alobacteroides and {H}aloanaerobacter species based on sequence comparisons of the 16{S} ribosomal {RNA} gene}, author = {{P}atel, {B}.{K}.{C}. and {A}ndrews, {K}.{T}. and {O}llivier, {B}ernard and {M}ah, {R}.{A}. and {G}arcia, {J}ean-{L}ouis}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he 16{S} r{RNA} gene (r{DNA}) sequence analysis of four halophilic anaerobes : #{H}alobacteroides halobius$, #{H}. lacunaris$, #{H}aloanaerobacter ({H}b.) chitinovorans$ and #{H}. acetoethylicus$ confirmed that they were all members of the family #{H}aloanaerobiaceae$. #{H}. lacunaris$ and #{H}. halobius$ were found to be more closely related to each other and were distantly related to #{S}porohalobacter lortetti$ and the members of the genera #{H}aloanaerobium$ and #{H}alothermothrix$. {T}hese data are in agreement with their assignment to the genus #{H}alobacteroides$. {F}urther analysis indicated that #{H}b. chitinovorans$ was closely affiliated to members of the genus #{H}alobacteroides$, and therefore we propose to transfer it to the genus #{H}alobacteroides$ as #{H}. chitinovorans$ comb. nov. {T}his transfer would invalidate the genus #{H}aloanaerobacter$, as #{H}b. chitinovorans$ is the only member of this genus. {T}he 16{S} r{DNA} sequence analysis of #{H}. acetoethylicum$ indicated that it was very closely related to members of the genus #{H}aloanaerobium$, viz. #{H}aloanaerobium ({H}a.) praevalens$, #{H}a. salsugo$, and #{H}a. alcaliphilum$, and hence we propose to transfer it to the genus #{H}aloanaerobium$ as #{H}a. acetoethylicus$ comb. nov.
