  abstract = {{I}n order to establish the origine of dietetics in {A}rabo-{P}ersian medicine, the {C}oran and the {H}adith, {I}slamic {S}acred texts, have been studied. {T}heir quotations concerning basic dietetic notions and food products used in {A}rabo-{P}ersian medicine have been taken into consideration. {T}he second part of this study concerns patients' food, diets and dietetics mentioned in {A}rabo-{P}ersian writings. {A}ccording to {A}rabo-{P}ersian physicians and scientists foods are classified into absolute foods, medicinal foods and food drugs. {T}he use of foods as drugs is illustrated by three examples : fenugreek (#{T}rigonella foenum graecum$ {L}.), honey and garlic (#{A}llium sativum$ {L}.).
