@article{PAR00015230, title = {{H}ydro-climate changes over southwestern {A}rabia and the {H}orn of {A}frica during the last glacial-interglacial transition : a pollen record from the {G}ulf of {A}den}, author = {{F}ersi, {W}. and {L}ezine, {A}nne-{M}arie and {B}assinot, {F}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{W}e studied a marine sedimentary section deposited at a high sedimentation rate in the {G}ulf of {A}den (core {MD}92-1002) to document environmental and hydrological changes since the end of the last glacial period and better understand the onset and decay of the {H}olocene {H}umid {P}eriod ({HHP}). {P}ollen analysis reveals that the period from the {LGM} to 13.5 ka was hyper arid with sparse vegetation cover characterized by xerophitic taxa from the {S}aharo-{S}indian phyto-geographical region. {H}umidity increased since 14.9 ka to reach a maximum between -9 and 7.5 ka, as revealed by peak abundances of the tropical mangrove {R}hizophora and high values of a pollen-based humidity index. {T}he {HHP} ended up gradually, starting to decline as soon as 7.51 a and collapsing definitively at 4 ka. {T}his decline is characterized by the appearance of {M}editerranean taxa and the return of arid conditions, comparable to that of today. {C}omparison of our pollen record with three speleothem records from the {A}rabian {P}eninsula makes it possible to reconstruct a northward and westward shift of the {I}nter {T}ropical {C}onvergence {Z}one at the onset of the {HHP}.}, keywords = {{A}rabia ; {H}orn of {A}frica ; {G}ulf of {A}den ; {P}ollen ; {H}olocene {H}umid {P}eriod ; {M}onsoon ; {ARABIQUE} {PENINSULE} ; {SOMALIE} ; {ADEN} {GOLFE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{R}eview of {P}alaeobotany and {P}alynology}, volume = {233}, numero = {}, pages = {176--185}, ISSN = {0034-6667}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1016/j.revpalbo.2016.04.002}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00015230}, }
