@article{PAR00014695, title = {{M}icrobial culturomics to map halophilic bacterium in human gut : genome sequence and description of {O}ceanobacillus jeddahense sp. nov.}, author = {{K}helaifia, {S}. and {L}agier, {J}. {C}. and {B}ibi, {F}. and {A}zhar, {E}. {I}. and {C}roce, {O}. and {P}admanabhan, {R}. and {J}iman-{F}atani, {A}. {A}. and {Y}asir, {M}. and {R}obert, {C}. and {A}ndrieu, {C}. and {F}ournier, {P}. {E}. and {R}aoult, {D}idier}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{C}ulturomics is a new omics subspecialty to map the microbial diversity of human gut, coupled with a taxono-genomic strategy. {W}e report here the description of a new bacterial species using microbial culturomics: strain {S}5({T}), (={CSUR} {P}1091={DSM} 28586) isolated from a stool specimen of a 25-year-old obese patient from {S}audi {A}rabia. {T}he strain {S}5({T}) was a {G}ram-positive, strictly aerobic rod, which was motile by a polar flagellum, spore-forming, and exhibited catalase and oxidase activities. {I}t grows optimally at 37 degrees {C}, with a p{H} of 7.5 and 10% of {N}a{C}l. 16{S} r{RNA} gene-based identification revealed that strain {S}5({T}) has 98.6% 16{S} r{RNA} sequence similarity with the reference {O}. oncorhynchi, phylogenetically the closest validated {O}ceanobacillus species. {H}ere, we further describe the phenotypic characteristics of this organism and its complete genome sequence and annotation. {T}he 5,388,285bp long genome exhibits a {G}+{C} content of 37.24% and contains 5109 protein-coding genes and 198 {RNA} genes. {B}ased on the characteristics reported here, we propose classifying this novel bacterium as representative of a new species belonging to the genus {O}ceanobacillus, {O}ceanobacillus jeddahense sp. nov. {I}n a broader context, it is noteworthy that halophilic bacteria have long been overlooked in the human gut, and their role in human health and disease has not yet been investigated. {T}his study thus further underscores the usefulness of the culturomics approach exploring the bacterial diversity of the gut.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{O}mics-a {J}ournal of {I}ntegrative {B}iology}, volume = {20}, numero = {4}, pages = {248--258}, ISSN = {1536-2310}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1089/omi.2016.0004}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00014695}, }
