@article{PAR00014443, title = {{T}hermanaeromonas burensis sp. nov., a thermophilic anaerobe isolated from a subterranean clay environment}, author = {{G}am, {Z}. {B}. and {D}aumas, {S}. and {C}asalot, {L}aurence and {B}artoli-{J}oseph, {M}. and {N}ecib, {S}. and {L}inard, {Y}. and {L}abatt, {M}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} strictly anaerobic, thermophilic and halotolerant strain, designated {IA}106({T}), was isolated from the seepage water collected in a metal biocorrosion test at a depth of 490 m, in a 130-160 m thick, subterranean {C}allovo-{O}xfordian clay formation (158-152 million years old) in northern {F}rance. {T}his geological formation has been selected as the potential host rock for the {F}rench high-level nuclear waste repository. {C}ells of strain {IA}106({T}) stained {G}ram-positive and were non-motile, spore-forming, straight rods (0.5 x 2-6 mu m). {T}he five major fatty acids were {C}-16:0 (15.9 %), {C}-18:0 (15.4 %), iso-{C}-17:1 {I} and/or anteiso-{C}-17:1 {B}(14.8 %), iso-{C}-17:0 (14.7 %) and iso-{C}-15:0 (13.0 %). {G}rowth was observed at temperatures ranging from 55 to 70 degrees {C} and at p{H} 5.5-9. {T}he salinity range for growth was 0-20 g {N}a{C}l 1(-1). {Y}east extract was required for growth. {S}train {IA}106({T}) was able to grow on lactate and various sugars in the presence of thiosulfate as electron acceptor. {S}ulfate, sulfite, elemental sulfur, fumarate, nitrate and nitrite were not reduced. {T}he {DNA} {G}+{C} content was 60.2 mol%. 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence analysis indicated that strain {IA}106({T}) belonged to the family {T}hermoanaerobacteraceae, class {C}lostridia, phylum {F}irmicutes, and was most closely related to {T}hermanaeromonas toyohensis {DSM} 14490({T}) (95.16 % 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence similarity). {O}n the basis of 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence comparisons and physiological characteristics, strain {IA}106({T}) represents a novel species of the genus {T}hermanaeromonas, for which the name {T}hermanaeromonas burensis sp. nov. is proposed. {T}he type strain is {IA}106({T}) (={DSM} 26576({T})={JCM} 18718({T})).}, keywords = {{FRANCE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {66}, numero = {1}, pages = {445--449}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1099/ijsem.0.000739}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00014443}, }
