@article{PAR00012314, title = {{C}omplete genome sequence of {T}unisvirus, a new member of the proposed family {M}arseilleviridae}, author = {{A}herfi, {S}. and {B}oughalmi, {M}. and {P}agnier, {I}. and {F}ournous, {G}. and {L}a {S}cola, {B}. and {R}aoult, {D}idier and {C}olson, {P}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{M}arseillevirus is the founding member of the proposed family {M}arseilleviridae, which is the second discovered family of giant viruses that infect amoebae. {T}hese viruses have been recovered from environmental water samples and, more recently, from humans. {T}unisvirus was isolated from fountain water in {T}unis, {T}unisia, by culturing on {A}canthamoeba spp. and is a new marseillevirus. {W}e describe here its 380,011 base-pair genome. {A} total of 484 proteins were identified, among which 320 and 358 have an ortholog in {M}arseillevirus and {L}ausannevirus (e-value < 1e-2), respectively, and 259 and 299 have best reciprocal hits with a {M}arseillevirus and a {L}ausannevirus protein, respectively. {I}n addition, a significant hit was found in organisms other than marseilleviruses for 144 {T}unisvirus proteins, indicating extensive lateral gene transfers, as has been demonstrated previously for {M}arseillevirus. {F}inally, a total of 21 {ORF}ans were identified. {P}hylogeny reconstructions and analysis of the gene repertoires of marseilleviruses, including the proportion of orthologs and the mean amino acid identity between genes in pairs, suggest that the proposed family {M}arseilleviridae encompasses three lineages. {L}ineage {A} is composed of {M}arseillevirus, {C}annes 8 virus and {S}enegalvirus; lineage {B} is represented by {L}ausannevirus alone; and lineage {C} has {T}unisvirus as its first member. {T}aken together, these findings suggest that the marseilleviruses display a substantial level of diversity.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{A}rchives of {V}irology}, volume = {159}, numero = {9}, pages = {2349--2358}, ISSN = {0304-8608}, year = {2014}, DOI = {10.1007/s00705-014-2023-5}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00012314}, }
