@article{PAR00011605, title = {{C}omplete genome sequence of {C}ourdo11 virus, a member of the family {M}imiviridae}, author = {{Y}oosuf, {N}. and {P}agnier, {I}. and {F}ournous, {G}. and {R}obert, {C}. and {L}a {S}cola, {B}. and {R}aoult, {D}idier and {C}olson, {P}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{G}iant viruses of amoebae were discovered 10 years ago and led to the description of two new viral families: {M}imiviridae and {M}arseilleviridae. {T}hese viruses exhibit remarkable features, including large capsids and genomes that are similar in size to those of small bacteria and their large genetic repertoires include genes that are unique among viruses. {T}he family {M}imiviridae has grown during the past decade since the discovery of its initial member, {M}imivirus, and continues to expand. {H}ere, we describe the genome of a new giant virus that infects {A}canthamoeba spp., {C}ourdo11 virus, isolated in 2010 by inoculating {A}canthamoeba spp. with freshwater collected from a river in southeastern {F}rance. {T}he {C}ourdo11 virus genome is a double stranded {DNA} molecule composed of 1,245,674 nucleotides. {T}he comparative analyses of {C}ourdo11 virus with the genomes of other giant viruses showed that it belongs to lineage {C} of mimiviruses of amoebae, being most closely related to {M}egavirus chilensis and {LBA} 111, the first mimivirus isolated from a human. {M}ajor characteristics of the {M}. chilensis genome were identified in the {C}ourdo11 virus genome, found to encode three more t{RNA}s. {G}enomic architecture comparisons mirrored previous findings that showed conservation of collinear regions in the middle part of the genome and diversity towards the extremities. {F}inally, fourteen {ORF}ans were identified in the {C}ourdo11 virus genome, suggesting that the pan-genome of mimiviruses of amoeba might reach a plateau.}, keywords = {{C}ourdo11 virus ; {M}imivirus ; {M}imiviridae ; {G}iant virus ; {M}egavirales ; {N}ucleocytoplasmic large {DNA} viruses ; {A}moeba}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{V}irus {G}enes}, volume = {48}, numero = {2}, pages = {218--223}, ISSN = {0920-8569}, year = {2014}, DOI = {10.1007/s11262-013-1016-x}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00011605}, }
