@article{PAR00011194, title = {{C}omplete genome sequence of {C}annes 8 virus, a new member of the proposed family "{M}arseilleviridae"}, author = {{A}herfi, {S}. and {P}agnier, {I}. and {F}ournous, {G}. and {R}aoult, {D}idier and {L}a {S}cola, {B}. and {C}olson, {P}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{M}arseillevirus is a giant virus that was isolated in 2007 by culturing water collected from a cooling tower in {P}aris, {F}rance, on {A}canthamoeba polyphaga. {S}ince then, five other marseilleviruses have been detected in environmental or human samples. {T}he genomes of two of the six marseilleviruses have been described in detail. {W}e describe herein the genome of {C}annes 8 virus, a new member of the proposed family "{M}arseilleviridae." {C}annes 8 virus was isolated from water collected from a cooling tower in {C}annes in southeastern {F}rance. {I}ts genome is a circular double-stranded {DNA} molecule with 374,041 base pairs, larger than the {M}arseillevirus and {L}ausannevirus genomes. {T}his genome harbors 484 open reading frames predicted to encode proteins with sizes ranging from 50 to 1,537 amino acids, among which 380 (79 %) and 272 (56 %) are bona fide orthologs of {M}arseillevirus and {L}ausannevirus proteins, respectively. {I}n addition, 407 and 336 predicted proteins have significant hits against {M}arseillevirus and {L}ausannevirus proteins, respectively, and 294 proteins are shared by all three marseilleviruses. {T}he {C}annes 8 virus genome has a high level of collinearity (for 96 % of orthologs) with the {M}arseillevirus genome. {A}bout two-thirds of the {C}annes 8 virus gene repertoire is composed of family {ORF}ans. {T}he description and annotation of the genomes of new marseilleviruses that will undoubtedly be recovered from environmental or clinical samples will be helpful to increase our knowledge of the pan-genome of the family "{M}arseilleviridae.".}, keywords = {{C}annes 8 virus ; {M}arseilleviridae ; {G}iant virus ; {M}egavirales ; {N}ucleocytoplasmic large {DNA} virus ; {A}canthamoeba}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{V}irus {G}enes}, volume = {47}, numero = {3}, pages = {550--555}, ISSN = {0920-8569}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1007/s11262-013-0965-4}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00011194}, }
