@article{PAR00004137, title = {{P}hocaeicola abscessus gen. nov., sp nov., an anaerobic bacterium isolated from a human brain abscess sample}, author = {{A}l {M}asalma, {M}. and {R}aoult, {D}idier and {R}oux, {V}.}, abstract = {{A} strictly anaerobic bacterial strain, 7401987({T}), was isolated from a human brain abscess sample. {C}ells were {G}ram-negative, non-spore-forming, coccoid to rod-shaped and motile by flagella in a lophotrichous arrangement. {T}he isolate was asaccharolytic and the major cellular fatty acids were anteiso-{C}-15:0 (28.2%), {C}-16:0 (18.0%), iso-{C}-15:0 (12.3%) and iso-{C}-17:0 3-{OH} (11.7%). 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence comparisons showed that the isolate was distantly related to members of the genera {B}acteroides (<83.6% similarity), {P}arabacteraides (< 79.9 % similarity), {T}annerella (<79.8% similarity), {D}ysgonomonas (<79.6% similarity), {P}orphyromonas (<79.3% similarity) and {P}revotella (<78.9% similarity). {T}he low 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence similarity values and physiological and biochemical characteristics differentiated strain 7401987({T}) from all known species and indicate that our isolate represents a novel species in a new genus within the phylum {B}acteroidetes. {T}he name {P}hocaeicola abscessus gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed; the type strain of {P}hocaeicola abscessus is 7401987({T}) (={CCUG} 55929({T}) ={CSUR} {P}22({T}) ={DSM} 21584({T})).}, keywords = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {59}, numero = {{P}art 9}, pages = {2232--2237}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2009}, DOI = {10.1099/ijs.0.007823-0}, URL = {http://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{PAR}00004137}, }
