One individual (a 56-year-old Baka Pygmy hunter) was found to be HTLV-3 infected; however, there was a low proviral load in blood cells. Complete sequence analysis of this virus (HTLV-3(Lobak18)) indicated a close relationship to human HTLV-3(Pyl43) and simian STLV-3(CTO604) strains. Plasma samples from Lobak18, the HTLV-3 infected individual, exhibited a peculiar "HTLV-2-like" pattern on Western blot analysis and were serologically untypeable by line immunoassay. These results were different from those for the 2 previously reported HTLV-3 strains, raising questions about serological confirmation of infection with such retroviruses.
<targetAudience authority="marctarget">specialized</targetAudience><classification authority="local">052 </classification><relatedItem type="host"><titleInfo><title>journal of infectious diseases</title></titleInfo><part><detail type="volume"><number>199</number></detail><detail type="issue"><number>4</number></detail><extent unit="pages"><start>561</start><end>564</end></extent></part><originInfo><dateIssued>2007</dateIssued></originInfo></relatedItem><identifier type="uri">http://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/PAR00003580</identifier><identifier type="doi">10.1086/596206</identifier><location><physicalLocation>IRD Bondy</physicalLocation><shelfLocator/><url usage="primary display" access="object in context">http://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/PAR00003580</url></location><recordInfo><recordContentSource>IRD - Base Horizon / Pleins textes</recordContentSource><recordCreationDate encoding="w3cdtf">2009-07-08</recordCreationDate><recordChangeDate encoding="w3cdtf">2011-05-12</recordChangeDate><recordIdentifier>PAR00003580</recordIdentifier><languageOfCataloging><languageTerm authority="iso639-2b">fre</languageTerm></languageOfCataloging></recordInfo></mods></modsCollection>
