@article{FDI00029856, title = {{G}enetic conservation in {P}arkia biglobosa ({F}abaceae: {M}imosoideae) : what do we know ?}, author = {{L}ompo, {D}. and {V}inceti, {B}. and {G}aisberger, {H}. and {K}onrad, {H}. and {D}uminil, {J}{\'e}r{\^o}me and {O}uedraogo, {M}. and {S}ina, {S}. and {G}eburek, {T}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he medicinal and food tree species {P}arkia biglobosa ({F}abaceae: {M}imosoideae) is widespread in the {S}udanian savannahs of sub-{S}aharan {A}frica, where it has a strong socio-cultural and economic importance. {P}opulations of this species are highly threatened in large parts of its range due to overexploitation and environmental degradation. {I}n the light of climatic changes, safeguarding the genetic diversity of the species is crucial to foster adaptation and to support its long-term survival. {G}enetic insight is also relevant to guide sustainable harvesting. {T}his paper has the objective to review information on the species' geographic distribution, reproductive biology, genetic characteristics and existing conservation practices, and to identify knowledge gaps to orientate future conservation and research focus. {T}he literature review revealed that the species is mainly outcrossed and is pollinated by a diversity of vectors, including bats that allow long-pollen dispersal. {W}hen bats are absent, pollination is mainly carried out by honey bees and stingless bees and in such case pollen-mediated gene flow is relatively restricted. {D}ata of a large-scale genetic study based on allozyme markers showing a moderate genetic differentiation among populations were reanalyzed using an inverse distance weighted interpolation function. {T}hree distinctive regions of diversity based on allelic richness and expected heterozygosity were identified. {F}inally, we discuss future challenges for genetic conservation by emphasizing the need to use both neutral and adaptive markers in future research.}, keywords = {{BURKINA} {FASO} ; {AFRIQUE} {SUBSAHARIENNE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}ilvae {G}enetica}, volume = {66}, numero = {}, pages = {art. no e12424 [9 en ligne ]}, ISSN = {0037-5349}, year = {2017}, DOI = {10.1515/sg-2017-0001}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/{FDI}00029856}, }
